Customer’s Takeuchi TB1140 excavator experienced a “malfunction” when its right rubber track snapped during loading onto a trailer. Customer called in to inquire about the cost implications of replacing the entire undercarriage and transitioning from rubber to steel tracks.

It’s important to note that converting from rubber to steel tracks does not necessitate changing sprockets, rollers, or idlers, which represents a considerable cost-saving benefit.

At the time of this post the price for a new 20” wide rubber track for the TB1140 is $4744, while the price for a steel track is priced at $7244. Additionally, steel tracks offer enhanced durability and longevity compared to rubber tracks, reducing long-term maintenance and replacement costs. If something does break on the chain it’s approximately a $50 part replacement.
